Year on Year (YoY)

Meaning

Y-o-Y, or Year Over Year, is defined as a method of comparing data from one  year to the same time frame in the previous year.

Example :

For instance, if a company reported earnings of ₹10 lakh last year and ₹12 lakh  this year, it signifies that the profit increased by 20% Y-o-Y.

How to Understand :

Y-o-Y provides insight into how things have changed over the course of a year, indicating  whether there has been growth, decline, or stability.

Importance :

1. It is a crucial tool for measuring long-term growth and performance in business and  economic contexts.
2.  Y-o-Y comparisons allow for effective evaluation of the performance of various  companies.
3. It highlights economic and financial trends that can influence investment decisions.
4. This measure helps investors gauge the strength and resilience of a company or market over time.
